Immersive Research: A Hands-On Course
Immersive research is a new methodology for online qualitative research. Immersive research studies seek to capture customer experiences and emotions as they unfold via online, providing researchers powerful access to people’s day-to-day experiences.
This class is designed for experienced moderators who want learn how to design and execute Immersive Online Research Studies. This class will provide a combination of conceptual learning and hands-on experience that will enable students to immediately add a new and compelling offering to their business.
Class details:
The class will consist of three distance-learning units that will be conducted via web and voice conferencing, self guided web video tutorials and a seven-day live Immersive Research project with recruited participants.
The three distance-learning units will be 2 hours each and will be conducted via web and voice conferencing. They will be highly interactive with approximately 45-60 minutes of lecture and 30-45 minutes of discussion. The three units are:
Unit One: Designing and Executing Immersive Research Studies
This unit starts with a brief overview of Immersive research, using case studies to illustrate the goals and possibilities of the methodology. From there we move on to determining when immersive research is appropriate and then get into the specifics of designing and executing immersive research studies, including:
1. Deciding on duration and interaction levels
2. Creating activities to capture behaviors and emotions
3. Using stimuli and projective techniques
4. Recruiting and incentives
Unit Two: Getting Set to Launch
This unit starts addresses the practical details of working through an immersive project including:
1. Managing work flow
2. Day to day communications with participants
3. Effective online facilitation
Immersive Research Live Study:
Following Unit 2, the class will jointly create and conduct a 7 day immersive research project with live participants using the Revelation online research system.
Unit 3: Post project wrap up and analysis
At the conclusion of the live study there will be a debrief and a discussion of analysis approaches.
Students will receive:
1. Recordings of the learning units including class presentation notes
2. Training on Revelation online research system
3. Use of study artifacts for pitching prospective clients
4. Ongoing mentoring

January 12-16 live project
