Effectively Scoping in a World with No Time Boxes
One of the questions we often get from researchers making the transition to Immersive Research is, “How much can we ask participants to do?” And the answer I often give is, “The participants can give you a ton of information depending on the structure of the project – the bigger question, is how much time and information can you, as the researcher, fit into the project?”

Announcing Revelation Express: Taking the Guesswork Out
Back in 2007 when I started Revelation, Inc., one of the guiding principles was that technology in itself was not methodology. In order to take full advantage of the amazing possibilities that technology of the Internet age offered -- qualitative research -- it would require a new way of thinking about methodology and how to support these research projects. Since our founding, Revelation has been dedicated to exploring and improving online qualitative technology, methodology and practice to serve our ultimate mission: Understanding people to answer key business questions.

Market Research Has Been Given a Revelation by Eric Bell, MRGA
"Market Research Has Been Given a Revelation ... It's called Immersive Research and it might just redefine your expectations for qualitative research"
Late in November, Eric Bell, founder and CEO of MRGA interviewed Steve August, CEO, Revelation. If you missed the interview, it is a candid conversation about Steve's vision and how Immersive Research came to be. Immersive Research is still a new concept and approach to online qualitative research and a great option for those looking for an alternative to in-person focus groups. We recently published a white paper that outlines the cost benefits of Immersive Research compared to traditional in-person methods, you can download it here.

Thoughts from The Market Research Event
During the past few days, I had the pleasure of attending The Market Research Event in Orlando. It was wonderful to meet so many of Revelation's customers, and vendors in person, as well as many friends and colleagues.
For those who have never attended TMRE , it can be a little overwhelming. There are nine (yes, nine!) concurrent tracks over the course of nearly three days. It’s impossible for any one person to see everything and inevitably there are sessions you want to attend that happen during the same time slot.
The event has only just finished up, but I’ve collected some of my high level takeaways. To read Steve’s thoughts click here.
Master or Mini? Learn more about our expanded webinar program!

In this month’s post, Steve August, Revelation's CEO, reflects on Steve Jobs.
How Steve Jobs Helped Create Revelation
There has been quite a bit of sadness around the Revelation office since the news of Steve Jobs’ passing. We are a company of Apple fan boys and girls, and our office is a veritable showroom of Apple stuff – iMacs, iPhones, and iPads. And yet, the rows of sleek, immaculately designed devices on our desks represent only the most superficial impact that Steve Jobs has had on Revelation.

Tips for Creating Great Activities
What powers our Immersive Research? Activities! Well-designed and timed activities can be that zing that takes your research study to the next level…unlocking powerful insights. They give you the opportunity to access that moment when your consumers are ‘doing’ or ‘thinking’ that will help guide you in a new product concept or business decision. Activities engage research participants in an unprecedented way; activities subtly tune participants into the moment, giving you the researcher or decision maker rich data.

Predictions for 2011 in Market Research, by Steve August

With 2010 now behind us, what does 2011 hold for market research? Let's peer into our crystal ball for some fearless predictions ...
Winter Release 2011 - Live January 17th
Revelation Labs, our software development team, uses the agile methodology for product development. For those of you who are new to agile it is a group of software development methodologies based on iterative and incremental development. In line with this philosophy and methodology we release new features and upgrades frequently, and strive to make continuous improvements. The first upgrade in the Winter 2011 release is a new scheduling tool, the Visual Activity Scheduler. The Visual Activity Scheduler is a key component of our online qualitative software platform - Revelation Project.
Revelation Project is based on activities. When a research study is developed using Revelation Project, the researcher will select and build out "activities" to lead and guide their participants through the research study. The new Visual Activity Scheduler makes managing, viewing and scheduling activities intuitive and dynamic.
Below are three examples of activities that are used within Revelation Project to capture key insights.
To learn more about the Visual Activity Scheduler or watch a recorded demo of the new scheduler please visit: www.revelationglobal.com/winterrelease
It's a Portland thing ...

Last year the Revelation design team created a Scout Book in appreciation of our clients and partners. A Scout Book is a notebook that will fit in your pocket. It's a little bit Portland-ish - but what really makes it Portland-ish is the design. Our design team creates objects, featuring our logo, in tribute to art and design movements that inspire us. This year Constructivism is the theme. Constructivism originated in Russia from 1919 and rejects the idea of "art for art's sake" and placed value in art as a means to further social purposes.
The piece that inspired us this year was created by László Maholy-Nagy, who was a professor at the Bauhaus School.
Not only is it a Portland thing, it is a Revelation thing. We are inspired by great design, great thinking and are driven by a mission to provide a great research experience.
If you'd like a Revelation Scout Book please email amy.mayer@revelationglobal.com.

What is Old is New Again

Our headquarters are in Portland, Oregon. We are pretty green; we are not just talking about recycling paper, or batteries. What we are talking about is our Great Research Thinking Webinar Series. While we are in the midst of launching our 2011 Great Research Thinking Series, it dawned on us that we should send out a reminder that we have three Great Research Thinking Webinars from 2010 that are well worth watching. These webinars have been attended and downloaded over (aggregated data) 2000 times.

Inside Revelation: Revelation Support Team Shares Their Secrets to Success, by Drew Woods
Most support teams work as hard as they can to reduce the amount of time they spend actually answering incoming requests from the users. Primarily, this effort is channeled into documentation, canned responses, recorded screen casts, webinars, and the like. At Revelation, we spend a good amount of time on these materials as well, but they're not our only tools.

The Revelation Daily | paper.li by Kristie Conner
We recently created our own paper.li - The Revelation Daily. For those of you who are not familiar with paper.li -- paper.li organizes links shared on Twitter into an easy to read newspaper-style format. Newspapers can be created for any Twitter user, list or #tag.
My first encounter with paper.li was the #MRX Daily and then while at Blog World Expo, I visited the paper.li booth. While at the Expo, I got a lesson on how easy it is to create a personalized paper.li. The simplicity won me over, but why I keep reading The Revelation Daily and #MRX Daily is to keep caught up - it is an easy way to stay informed and abreast of industry news.
You would think, that The Revelation Daily would be about Revelation, but it is not, it is about the people we follow! And, for those of you who are frequent Twitter users, you'll like the fact the paper.li takes the best, most tweeted topics of the day and aggregates them (with pictures) in an easy to read format!
